HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) – HudsonAlpha has received a multi-million dollar grant from the U.S. National Science Foundation to lead a new initiative aimed at rural communities across the region.
The NSF selected HudsonAlpha for its BRIDGES Engine — Bio-based Rural Innovation for Domestic Growth and Economic Security — a program designed to create a sustainable bio-based economy across Alabama and Tennessee.
Transforming farmland into new industry
The initiative will transform farmland into a platform for new industries, opening opportunities for manufacturers and production groups in the area.
“Local industries, car manufacturers, other production groups will be able to expand their facilities here in the area,” said Neil Lamb, President of HudsonAlpha. “Because we’ll have those products available for them to use. The consumers benefit from that. It creates new jobs and it brings additional economic investment to the area.”
Community event planned
HudsonAlpha is holding a public event next month at Mars Music Hall in Huntsville where attendees can learn more about the initiative.
