Hey everyone,
long story short, I need advice on finding a direction in life.
I don’t really know what I want to do, careerwise, just that I would like to quit being a bartender, and actually have something, maybe reminiscent of a career.
I’ve been going through a bout of depression and recently left my current position. I probably could go into a few nearby bars and get a minimum wage position without much difficulty, but I’d like to figure out a way to be happy instead.
I completed a BA degree in Ancient History, and then dropped out half way through an MA in Classics, both of these in the UK. Unfortunately, I only have British citizenship right now, which means I’ve just sent emails to my local universities to ask them what my options with them might be.
But even if they said “Come aboard” I don’t really know what direction I want to take. I’d like any kind of job that has future prospects, doesn’t make me want to die, and makes me anywhere between 25 and 100k a year. I wouldn’t mind completely switching and getting an education in science and following that towards either engineering or medicine. Or I really want to work as a civil servant, but the whole publicjobs and hiring in batches thing has eluded me.
Is anyone else in a similar boat? Do citizen’s advice offer this kind of advice or am I just need to try to figure out how to figure out things?
Anyway, here’s a picture I took of a jackdaw/cág (Coloeus monedula spermologus) in Athenry Castle, co Galway few days ago https://i.imgur.com/NFiZeC6.jpg

No, citizens advice are purely an information services for things got to do with living in Ireland from a bureaucracy pov. They aren’t a career counseling service. But those exists for money
You may benefit from speaking to a life coach, if they are still a thing. Citizen’s Advice are about legality and rights, state services, etc.
Returning to Education in Ireland might be a bit pricey as a non-EU citizen.
I’d recommend taking a self-assessment on the likes of CareersPortal and try to coincide these results with the projected labour market trends / demands. If you’re unemployed, have a chat with your local employment service (LES) to explore your options. Even if you don’t fit into that category, I’m sure their career guidance counselors can offer you advice as long as you’re honest and polite about wanting to improve your situation.
