  2. Usually it should have 2 hinges along one of the longer sides. Probably next to the building, but not necessarily. Other option is that there are no hinges and you can just pick it up.

    The problem is the grate is heavy and probably stuck, it will be difficult without a crowbar…

UPDATE: we actually called the cops last night when it happened who said they couldn’t do anything to help us and we had to wait till Monday and call the city council. my friend has decided to let go of his poor phone since he and a couple others also barfed into this same drain after the phone had fallen in (drain is located in Old Town). this whole affair has got me wondering how they don’t have a proper procedure for this considering the very unfortunate location of this drain and how common this might be with so many poor drunken and unknowing innocents sitting on this sidewalk to rest. rip.
