Pretty sure theres lots of laws that stop kids buying things.
Sometimes they manage it or an adult does it for them but that doesn’t mean we should give up
E scooter’s aren’t cigarettes or cider children are hardly buying it out of their pocket money anyway.
16 year olds are adults as far as other traffic laws go.
>Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan has said laws to restrict the sale of e-scooters to people over the age of 16 would be “unenforceable”, and “bad law”.
Am I high or what is the purpose in saying this and then going on to talk about children _under_ 16?
How would it be harder than the current law of not allowing them to buy E-cigarettes?
Engage brain. Open mouth.
… time out error on brain engagement.
Sure there’s loads of laws in place already that are, in reality, unenforceable. Piss off Eamonn! Not picking up your dogs poo is an offence under law yet there are only two wardens policing this in dublin. Its not the law thats the problem. Its the lack of motivation to resolve it or think outside the box that’s the problem. Sure, it might be hard to police, but if they policed it heavily for a year say (like immediately confiscate the scooter if the person is under 18), people would likely realise its more trouble then its worth, and not buy them for their kids. The young lads that buy them themselves might also cop on that they’re risking losing the money they put into them and as a result, not buy one. Then it gradually stops being an issue. Disappointing to see such a weak cop out stance on this but I suppose we should expect that at this stage.
“Stop children buying e-scooters” What age group are children in his eyes, because you can be sure as hell its the parents buying them..
They’re currently illegal for everyone, and that’s not being enforced either. See also: scramblers.
Ryan “can this be enforced?”
Gardaí “not by us, that’s for sure!”
License the effing things.
You need a license to buy one. License to sell one.
If someone is not wearing a helmet or doesnt ave a license when rising one on pub roads, confiscate it.
These are going to get more and more popular, the speeds on them will increase, the models will get bigger and evolve into carts and trikes.
Does none of these cunts actually think further than 2 weeks down the road.
“It wouldn’t be reasonable to expect the gardai to enforce the law!”
Explaining the decision further, Mr Ryan said: “We don’t, in our country, carry identity cards.
“You can’t enforce identification. So the policing of this is the primary reason why it wouldn’t be enforceable. So introducing law which is not enforceable is bad law.”
He added that “there was nothing that we could have introduced” to legislate to stop adults purchasing cigarettes and drink for their son or daughter to use. – Irish transport minister argues against age restriction on tobacco and drink.
What a defeatist stance to take. How about they introduce a law that people aged 16 and above need to carry an identity card which then also says where they live which would be verified by a governmental department?
This way one could enforce this law and use that card as proof of address rather than having to keep utility bills and banking statements in paper form for no other reason.
If they were diesel engine scooters he’d find a fucking way
Jaysus boys and girls lucky we don’t sell guns, sure it’d be unenforceable to stop the children buying them.

Shop: “Oh sorry we can’t sell you this e scooter”
Child: “Mum, dad, can you buy me this e scooter?”
Irish Parent: “Yeah whatever I’m just an Irish parent so you I’ll buy it for you and any stupid shit you get up to I’ll blame on literally anyone else.”
Stopping people buying drugs is also unenforceable yet we spend hundreds of millions fighting it instead of treating it.
I think they’re waiting for a child to die on an e-scooter before they start to enforce the current law. The only issue is that there are so many e-scooters on the streets now. They really should have nipped this in the bud 3 or 4 years ago when e-scooters first appeared.
E scooters have been a perfect thing for these politicians to lean on thus with that being able to avoid improving public transportation. Were I walk to my bus top on my 15 min journey sometimes I feel like i am on the road lol and not on a walkable path with these E scooter flying by
