Jacob Rees-Mogg Says The Government Won’t Assess Whether Brexit Is A Success

  1. “Rees-Mogg said the success of the Covid vaccine rollout, plus free trade deals struck between the UK and other countries proved that Brexit was successful.

But asked whether he would produce his own data to back up his claims, the minister said: “I’m not going to make those sorts of assessments because lots were made before the referendum and they were all bilge.”

Just got to take his word for it. I just have to look out of the window to see all those Brexit benefits… I live near a stream that’s overflowing with the benefits of Brexits foaming effluence.

  2. The political equivalent of putting a finger in each ear and shouting “La la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la”

  3. I mean after years we still don’t have a single benefit

How much more evidence do we need

Normally if something has ‘considerable upside’ it’s easy to list it

  4. Hasn’t his job for the last while been specifically to locate and laud the benefits of Brexit? I guess he came up empty.

  5. “The government will not produce any assessments of whether Brexit has been a success”.

Isn’t that (another) dereliction of duty?

  6. That’s an interesting way of telling it was a total failure… but hey Brexiteers are now claiming that some of the bad forecasts from the remainers are not as bad, as they said it would be, and tell that’s a success ….

  7. So basically admitting it’s been a total shut show or they’d be yelling about it

Remember those thousands of benefits that turned out mostly nothing and only a handful of things you could sort of stretch to being a “benefit”

  8. It was a monumental fuck up and is the main reason the country is on its arse. I don’t see one single benefit at all.

  9. Sounds like a lot of confidence. How about he put his money where his mouth is like the government that dragged UK into the EEC back in the 70s?

Merely 2 years after doing so they were *so confident* they set up a referendum on whether to stay. *Surely* we’re due for such a referendum by now, as it’s literally been 2 years since the Withdrawal Agreement was signed in Jan 2020.

  10. Because it’s not. This group of corrupt, lying criminals will never admit when they’re in the wrong

  11. “It’s not the government’s responsibility to determine whether our policies are good or bad”

Jesus, they’re not even trying anymore because they know they don’t have to. If you’re not a self-interested millionaire or a fervent racist and you still vote for these ghouls, you are a complete idiot.

  12. Jacob Rees-Mogg an entitled pile of excrement who wants us back in the 19th Century, God help England what with him Boris Johnson and the right wing press the people of U.K. need some help to beat these people into pulp.

  13. In other words, the government have assessed whether Brexit is a success and have found that it isn’t.

  14. In the same spirit, I’m not going to check my betting slip from last season where I bet on West Ham to win the league. I shall just keep shouting that they are massive.

  15. Not true, The exchange rate is much better after Brexit. Oh, but I live in €uroland. Thanks Nigel/Boris.

  16. I think I’ll head into work tomorrow and smugly declare that I won’t be doing any. So there. Suck on that fuckers!!!!

It’s as if he’s gone on strike and is refusing to do his job, without holding the necessary ballot. Isn’t that illegal?

  17. If it was even close, we would not hear the end of it. Every media, every fkn banner, every day. The silence is deafening

  18.      Mogg’s words should be used in an elementary critical reasoning course. Here’s how.

Mogg denies that Brexit has caused economic harms, but refuses to seek evidence for the claim; and then he switches to saying that economics do not matter here anyway – but seemingly without withdrawing his original, refuse-to-try-to-warrant-it economic claim. Now, class, identify the fallacies.

  19. I have also made the handsome decision not to determine whether my 3am DMs to Son Heung Min, Elizabeth Olsen, The Rock and every hotty from uni inviting them to a Dr Fondue Who party were successful. I feel this is very brave of me.

  20. If Brexit was a success, we’d never hear the end of it. Mogg would personally visit every house in the UK with a megaphone to shout how Brexit was a success. The fact that he refuses to even assess it means it wasn’t.

  21. Ill just start by saying i voted remain and im very pro EU.

However, the industry im working in (IT) had a mass exodus of EU workers last year. So my salary has gone up quite a bit (not enough to cover the recent shit show tho ) and Job offers are relentless. Also my house price has gone up 50K+.

I would still swap it all for my EU membership back.
