How RMT boss Mick Lynch became the unexpected star of the rail strikes

  1. Who would of thought that all this country wants is a straight talking no bullshitting figure.

This is what Labour or Lib Dems need to aspire to. Not just be another suit talking on TV who’s undistinguishable from a Tories when on camera.

I want the Tories out but no other leader is connecting like Lynch has and he’s been able to deflect the BS as it’s been flung at him in real time.

  2. I found [this tweet](https://nitter.net/tom_usher_/status/1539313810955071495#m) pretty insightful:

    > Mick Lynch is impressive in his own right but it is telling how just by having on a guy who doesn’t give a shit about a long term media career makes nearly every political TV appearance look absolutely ridiculous by them not having to appease whatever deranged shit they say

    > All it takes is one guy not to care if he gets invited back on TV and suddenly all the ‘ferocious reporters’ and ‘hotly contested political debates’ just look exactly as they really are: a load of people chatting meaningless shit

which I saw quoted in leftfootfoward’s [Why the right wing attacks on the RMT are failing to turn the public against rail strikes](https://leftfootforward.org/2022/06/why-the-right-wing-attacks-on-the-rmt-are-failing-to-turn-the-public-against-rail-strikes/).

When he’s not being provoked and talked over like a hostile witness in a show trial, he’s excellent at telling how it is, for example [the video posted here](https://twitter.com/mrdanwalker/status/1539707071997923331):

    > We live in the age of the jabby, confrontational interview & the RMTs, Mick Lynch, has had a few of them.

    > If you treat people with respect, you can still ask tough questions & get decent answers allowing your audience to make their own minds up
