Reading Jan Karski’s book and Witold Pilecki ‘s report, as well as Stanisław Kawczak’s memoirs, both were equally bad but for different reasons. The Nazis were generally just… Outright brutal. The General Government, starvation campaigns, etc was all far more savage than the Soviets who, outside Katyn and deportations, were more just a highly oppressive police state. Conversely, the Nazis while brutal, wwre far less competent. As Karski mentions, in the General Government, the Polish Underground was able to flourish, but in Soviet occupied Poland, NKVD ability to infiltrate the Underground made the Underground effectively incapable of operating. The Soviets while lacking the sheer savage edge of the Nazis, were able to apply more indirect methods to divide, impede, and poison Poland.
The only difference was that the Germans were committing a genocide while russians mostly killed the so called inteligencja

Basically saying, as Communism and Nasism are German ideas, Nazi Germany saved us from themselves using another worse thing, resulting with the idea that they were “protecting” us.
