Surely there is a cap on how many we can take. That’d just the logical approach to take.
They’re so convinced of their own virtue they simply can’t understand their actions being questioned.
It is not sustainable for two people an hour to be arriving looking for asylum and accomodation in a country which has run out of resources.
What an absolute shock people like this out-of-touch, out-of-control, out-of-ideas minister are going to get at the next election.

Whys he being such a priss about the question? There’s a realistic number we can take and presumably they have some idea of what that is. I guarantee HE has an idea of what that number is. Getting all hot under the gooch about it is baffling to me.
If you have a 1 litre jug, you physically cannot hold more than 1litre of liquid in it – you either need to increase the size of the jug or find a bigger jug. The exact same basic logic and laws of physics apply to a country’s capacity to house and support individuals, there are inherent limits that governments need to and should be aware of, and should act with consideration towards. Anyone who instantly denounces any questioning of an uncontrolled approach to this issue as racist or xenophobic is a complete idiot
I don’t doubt though that we could be doing more and better if we weren’t such wasters when it came to looking after housing and healthcare over the past decade. We should be in a place where we have rapid deployment of solutions such as precast and modular building which can churn out large quantities of emergency housing units – with climate change refugees on the horizon, we should already be planning for and working towards being able to manage this type of thing, these numbers for this crisis are just a test compared to what Europe will face in the next few decades
There’s Irish posting online about becoming homeless, and in often cases those actually born here and working that can’t even find fcking house share in their mid 30s, having to live at home.
Some fck says sure there’s more people and we should get em in, because apparently when there’s not even 150houses across entire country somehow they can fit extra 1500 each month.

There are 45 million Ukrainians and they are losing the war. Unless a peace treaty is worked out relatively soon, there may be 20, 30, or even 40 million Ukrainian refugees in Europe by 2023 or 2024.
All European countries will be compelled by practical reality to put caps on refugee immigration. Ireland already has a housing crisis and we are short 200,000 to 500,000 housing units just for our own people. Add hundreds of thousands (millions?) of Ukrainians to that and what would our country look like? Chaos and collapse.
