Remember public school teachers don’t strike so this effects the most vulnerable to need education the most…
By next year, we’ll have had a 14% real terms pay cut since 2010. A *hair under one seventh of our wage – for me, that’s nearly 6k off my salary in a job that gets increasingly harder as the funding evaporates for SEND support and resources, our roles become less defined, and our duties seem to multiply to include things like social work.
Needless to say, striking is justified when they’re wasting hundreds of billions on vanity projects, failed policies, cronyism and consultants. Fuck ’em – bring on the general strike.
My fiancé is still a pretty early career teacher of physics, and watching him do that job is eye opening.
It’s like watching someone on the world’s tallest bungee. Some days he comes home so proud and happy, and some days he looks like he’s about to fall on the floor. It’s crazy how much extra time outside of the classroom he has to do work for.
He basically always does an 8am-5pm minimum, plus he responds to emails from kids on his phone at all hours, and on weekends.
He really cares about the kids he teaches, it’s so touching, but holy hell the work is not worth the pay and the upper management problems.
Good good. More the merrier.
The sooner people realise they deserve better than the shit sandwiches they’re currently being dished up, the better.
Can we all arrange these strikes to happen at the same time please? We need to grind the UK to a halt, then scrap all of it and start again!
I work at a University aka the ex-teachers graveyard
So many people working here that only managed the minimum teaching period to get the bonus
We all agree it’s a thankless brutal job
Nurses, Paramedics, Physios, OT’s, Healthcare Assistants, Junior Dr’s, The cleaners all NHS staff next. Everyone needs to walk and get these clowns out of office.
Fuck em, where else are these people going to work. Times are tough, so public sector workers are going to have to suck it up. Don’t like it? Quit
Good we need a general strike
I hope they do. Teachers, doctors, nurses, fire, the civil service, lecturers, council staff, the entire public sector. Fuck the tories and fuck all the damage they have done to what was a brilliant country 12 years ago.
