Buried in a taxi shortage article but late night Luas is big if true!
Start with the 16 bus route. Starts in Rathfarnham and goes all the way out to the airport. A 24 hour cross city airport bus is needed. Especially with the dearth of taxis. Having the 41 is not enough
Examining what? At least make the busy cross city routes 24/7. But no, we’ll need an expensive consultants report to come to that conclusion in 18 months time instead.
A red line luas at 2.am would be some sight alright!
Retrain those taxi drivers for buses.
How do people who work late get home normally?
Like Bar, Club, restaurant staff etc
God I would kill for the Luas to run later than midnight.
> On a recent Saturday night, Wayne Canavan walked for around 90 minutes from Dublin’s Harcourt Street in search of a taxi home to Finglas.
> He eventually flagged one down near Ballsbridge.
Did this article mix up locations, or two different stories? Harcourt Street to Finglas is about a 90 minute walk, but Ballsbridge is in a completely different direction. I get not wanting to walk the whole way there, but down to the bottom of Grafton Street or the Liffey would give you a much better chance of flagging down a taxi (and save you a bit off the fare).
Saturday nights in particular are the worst because the Sunday morning DART and bus services don’t kick off until around 9AM, so there’s a five hour waiting window if you miss the last Nitelink.
What frustrates me is that they’ve been “examining” this for *years* and absolutely nothing has come of it. Won’t be holding my breath.
It’s insane there isn’t a selection of 24h buses already
