So we can afford to give 11 million pensioners an increase of £20 a week, but we can’t give an extra £20 a week to 1 million unemployed people because it’s too expensive.
Pensioners who are only on state pensions will also be struggling. The cost of living crisis affects all the poor, whatever age.
If you can’t afford inflation busting then try offering inflation matching rather than real term cuts? Instead they’re demanding redundancy, pay cuts, and refusing to negotiate.
They could get the tax for this by… y’know… encouraging the work force to be paid more.
Can’t have you living comfortably though. You might have more energy to realise what fucking scam artists the tories are.
It’s not crazy at all, we all need more to survive, pensioners and workers alike.
In 2022-23, the full level of the new state pension rises by 3.1% taking it to £185.15 a week, or £9,627.80 a year.
Easy street here we come
The Energy Saving Trust estimates that a typical air source heat pump installation will cost you around £6000 – £8000, and a ground source heat pump installation can cost £10,000 – £18,000 depending on the amount of heat required.
If the Government is *ordering* Workers to accept wage cuts then they are interfering in the Free Market. Which seems perversely against World Trade Organisation rules. It would have been, technically, against EU State Aid Rules to distort the Free Market.
So pandering to the baby boomers then and hoping there’s still enough of them to pull them through another election as they disenfranchise the working class they *just* won over in the last election?
If they can justify inflation-busting ‘raises’ for pensioners, this should be across the board for all civil servants, key workers and benefits.
How are people angry that pensioners are getting a few extra quid?
Maybe they should have voted for a government that would deliver on useful policies like actually improving housing stock, developing green energy and not leaving the EU.
We have massive inflation because we have failed to go green enough. Going green but switching from coal to gas hasn’t helped in the medium term and won’t help in the long run either, for example.
They need the geriatric idiots to keep voting for them, obviously…
Controversial take but we should be giving pensioners a 10% increase. It’s just that wages should also be going up, starting with civil service as that’s what government has control over. Obviously if there’s inflation then surely tax takings will go up as well? So they can afford to pay extra…
There is one reason why:

A. Do they vote tory? No. FUCK THEM! FUCK THE UNEMPLOYED, THE PEASENTS! LET THEM STARVEEEEE!

Hell, I won’t be surprised if they start sabotaging the country if they actually believe they are fucked so they can blame whoever gets in next and constantly attack them for it.
So when are all MP’s going to accept a pay cut? Or an end to their expenses allowance?
Didn’t take much for the sub to give into the policy of division lol
All my state pension is going to my daughters to feed my grandkids. I’m lucky enough to have a small company pension. I think you’ll find that this is one area where trickle down economics is really working. Plenty of boomers like me are buffering their families against the current onslaught of food and fuel costs.
They need the votes of the new pensioners, after they killed so many off during the pandemic.
This is absolutely true. The triple lock means that while the cost of living goes up and thus average standards of living will probably decline, pensions are guaranteed a real terms increase every year.
It was a cynical, evil ploy to bribe the elderly to vote tory and it is funded by increasing the budget defecit.
Or to put that into clearer terms: We’re borrowing money we can’t afford and will end up leaving the bill to our kids.
In the modern age every single individual no matter how poorly educated should know how dumb this is. For supposedly educated people to do this for the whole country is criminal.
Just down tools, and walk out. Strike and hammer the greedy Bastards.
Imagine in a cost of living crisis telling people to accept wage cuts. What fuckijg scumbags

Because pensioners are more likely to own their own home and they are more likely to vote Tory.
