They did when I lived there as a child (British but spent years in Germany because of my dad’s work) and the locals would laugh “Geh nicht zu tief, da ist ein Wolf!”. That was quite a long time ago now though.

I found a DW [article](https://www.dw.com/en/the-origins-of-the-germans-special-relation-to-the-forest/a-45613711) talking about the relationship between Germans and the forest but is it still a presence in the day to day lives and thinking of Germans?

  1. I mean, there’s some phrases that are still used. And many people enjoy spending their spare time in forests. But I don’t think that it’s an important cultural thing for everyone.
