Over 70 years later and we still widen roads

  1. This is something I really dislike about transportation and how car centric it is. I don’t drive and short distances like Fgura to Hal Far are a nightmare due to long bus routes. My suggestion for people to drive less is for there to be better alternatives.
Why take the bus when you can drive and get there quicker? Why take the bus and spend a good 30 minutes at an unsheltered bus stop in blistering heat?
Heck even cycling is practically suicide due to a lack of proper bike lanes and reckless driving.
    I could really go on.

  2. Great quote. It highlights that the problem is not the car as a mode of transportation but that the more you build to make space, that space will become occupied.

Not every solution to our economic challenges should be to just bring in foreigners.

  3. I mean… the common maltese man/women mentality is still stuck pre 1955, so technically this is the best approach.

  4. I know that at least with my dad that he has he problem needing to go to Imgarr, he decided to just take alternative routines instead. The Imgarr main road (before you visit the church and the pubs) is too tight. Nobody can drive over there if it’s too chuck-a-block.

  5. Bit of a banal quote which doesn’t really explain induced demand at all and just trivialises it, making it easy to ignore. In reality, it is a complex problem which shouldn’t be ignored.

  6. The only solution is to reduce the total number of cars. One person can only have 2 vehicles max. To get the license for the second car one should pay double if not more. Improve bus and bicycle infrastructure and maybe we can start seeing some improvements. We already had a train system 100 years ago but yielded to the car importers for them to make a quick buck and now looked how they fucked us.

  7. The roads are not the problem, it’s the drivers.
Lack of courtesy to other road users , no indication, no planning to be in the correct lane and we are now back in the season where hanging on to the drivers door is a good look!!
