If a strike doesn’t do it, the turnover rate might. Their 90k smaller Civil Service is a goal that’s going to achieve itself before too long.
We lost 70% of my previous team (myself included, thank god) over the past 9 months – and now they can’t attract anyone to fill our positions since the wages, are *at best*, 40% off the mark in comparison to the nearby private sector alternatives. Then we got offered ~2% after a year of 0%. Go figure.
Oh, and funnily enough they were even struggling to get contractors – since the private sector has deeper pockets for them for our specialism as well.
Who needs a functioning civil service anyway…
Sympathy to my remaining CS colleagues on any future picket lines. Have at ‘um.
Add it to the list. Was also reading of regional bus drivers voting to strike. I wonder how many unions are balloting for strike action?
Wow looks like lots of workers are going to strike. I’ll bet good money that the Tory solution to this will make strikes virtually impossible or ban any public sector workers from striking.
With so many strikes going on for rail and civil workers, what about the rest who aren’t represented and not gaining extra income?

Long time coming.
