TULSA, Okla. — Public Service Company of Oklahoma (PSO) is asking customers to stay safe as temperatures continue to rise and the risk of extreme heat climbs.

“Extreme heat is part of life in Oklahoma, and preparing for it is part of what we do every day,” said PSO President and COO Leigh Anne Strahler. “Our teams are closely monitoring forecasts and system conditions, and we are ready to provide reliable service for our customers throughout this hot weather period.”

PSO said that it is prepared to provide “safe and reliable electric service” to ensure customers remain safe and comfortable during extreme heat.

PSO monitors weather conditions all year round and begins preparing for extreme conditions before temperatures begin to rise.

Regular emergency response drills are conducted and PSO maintains and upgrades electric infrastructure, as needed.

Because high temperatures usually result in increased electricity use, PSO and regional grid operators are doing their best to keep a close eye on the supply and demand and have plans in place to respond to any changing conditions.

However, despite PSO keeping a vigilant eye on weather conditions and the electricity supply they did say that there are things that customers can do to also help optimize energy use during extreme heat.

Customers can keep blinds and curtains closed during the hottest hours of the day and be sure to check that your air-conditioning vents are clear and not filled with debris.

Customers are also asked to hold off on using large appliances such as dishwashers, clothes dryers, and ovens during the hottest hours of the day. Customers can use ceiling fans to help circulate air and keep it cool inside.

PSO said customers can also check their energy use through their online accounts or the PSO mobile app.
