I am in a bit of a confusing situation, and the LEA website is unclear on how to go about this, and their responses to my emails are also not super helpful.

I am a British Citizen who has a residency permit under the ‘Artikel 50 EUV’ aufenthaltstitel, granting me residence for at least 10 years. AFAIK one can claim permanent residency after 5 years (alongside other requirements) of living in Germany.

…however it stipulates that one should have been in possession of a visa for 5 years for this ([https://www.berlin.de/einwanderung/dienstleistungen/service.871055.php/dienstleistung/121864/](https://www.berlin.de/einwanderung/dienstleistungen/service.871055.php/dienstleistung/121864/)).

For 4 years I was a resident as an EU citizen, thus did not need a visa to stay, but of course this changed after Brexit.

Now I am unsure if I would be successful when applying for permanent residency this year, as it may seem like I have only had a visa for 1 year.

Additionally, would this reset the time taken to acquire citizenship? As I believed I only need 2 more years for naturalisation, but now it is unclear (I fulfil the other requirements eg language, employment). The naturalisation requirements need an ‘unbefristete Aufenthaltsrecht’, which the artikel 50 EUV does not appear to be ([https://www.bamf.de/DE/Themen/Integration/ZugewanderteTeilnehmende/Einbuergerung/einbuergerung-node.html](https://www.bamf.de/DE/Themen/Integration/ZugewanderteTeilnehmende/Einbuergerung/einbuergerung-node.html)).

Does anyone British (or otherwise knowledgeable) have any experience/knowledge of this situation? I have a feeling this may be a common question in a few years when people more people qualify.
