Old aunt Jean who reckons the vaccine was made before the virus, it’s a Pfizer conspiracy.

That John Waters fella, half of [Boards.ie](https://Boards.ie), Trumpers . . . it’s been a learning experience

  1. Yep. I have a cousin that we all thought was grand until Covid. Then it was all “government control” and “fake virus”. No idea what he’s harping on about now

  2. The only downside is there was lots of people, good people I knew, famous notable figures who i might have liked or found interesting, became symbols of the mass-Covid conspiracy they claimed.

  3. Somehow there are still 30k people on the coronavirus_ireland subreddit despite it being about 5 lads with tinfoil hats and phd’s from the university of life spouting about purebloods.

  4. This is true. I was surprised how many people appeared normal only to have their tinfoil hat at the ready as soon as covid hit. That and I was surprised just how many truly stupid people there were. I had several people that just didn’t grasp that a close contact is a close contact. doesn’t matter if it was ‘just your mam’ or whatever

  5. I was on the train a few weeks ago, there was this woman who looked and seemed normal, maybe just a bit chatty. She helped this random couple get on with a pram, asked people could they move (train was packed between carriages even). She was even briefly talking to me about how it was poor the train was overbooked. All seemed grand.

She got talking to the couple with the baby and was having a normal conversation, ‘going anywhere nice for the day?’ ‘did ye have a good weekend?’ then she seemed to change into a script, she said ‘never be afraid to say no, or go against the grain’. ‘You want to do the best for your baby right?’ then she comes out with the ‘promise me not to get him vaccinated?’. The couple were just like … ahh fuck, we don’t want to get into a fight in front of our baby but fuck this conversation. She was going on about how her nephew got autism from the vaccine…

Another woman spoke up who was sitting near them and said ‘excuse me, could you leave them alone? they can make their own choices with the baby’. This normal woman then started calling that girl a ‘cheeky bitch’ and how disrespectful she was and she wasn’t talking to her etc. She walks away in a huff and goes into the between carriage space as she was getting off. She starts up a conversation with a teenage girl, like ‘It’s a lovely day today :)’ and then two sentences later is talking about ‘Don’t inject toxins into your body’. Really bit my tongue with saying anything because she was literally leaving in 2 minutes so I thought fuck it… let her off.

Was just mental how she seemed normal apart from being overly chatty and had the social skills to drag people into a normal small talk before sprouting her anti vax views.

  6. The Aisling O Loughlin saga was a wild ride. I was genuinely shocked by that I must say, she seemed like such a sensible woman…

  7. Youre right. It really highlighted all the fascistic people that wanted nothing more than to tell everyone how to live. People were harassed and belittled for having medical conditions. They were refused basic services and demonised. Anyone that dared to not fall in line regardless of the reason was made instantly into an enemy and treated as such. And thats just the tip of the iceberg of shitbaggery.

  8. Also flushed out the opposite end of the spectrum the hypercondriactes that rat out their neighbors for having one extra visitor over the limit.

  9. I found it really interesting that it gave an insight into a load of people that we probably wouldn’t have gotten without it.

Realised there are actually way less altruistic people than I would have guessed and a lot more selfish and easily manipulated/swayed people.

  10. Infairness it also brought to light the neurotic too. Younger people still wearing masks once the mandate was dropped, the vaccines were done and only mild variants around. They just look like they must be hysterical, especially wearing a mask outdoors. And many still worrying about social distancing or public transport and getting on a plane. I’m not talking about vulnerable groups or those who associate with them.

  11. For the record, in spring 2020, I remember John Waters pleading for the gov to take more action against covid so I ‘d warn against him classed a conspiracy theorist

  12. It also flushed out tolerance of worst behaviours, public officials shaming small gatherings outdoors, while BLM protests were encouraged by politicians
    Joke

  13. One of the best things about Covid is it promoted many of us to finally delete Facebook. I swear to god, Facebook was like your mother’s old Nokia she keeps in a press just incase she needs a spare phone someday. Years I wanted to delete it but “what if’s” kept my account open. That and 2012 me thinking “sign in with Facebook” was a good idea

  14. It created a lot of nutters. We’re a herd social species, not surprising that trying to separate aunt Jean from the herd and enforcing social distancing had some consequences imo.

  15. I still cant get over the nutters who are in far west rural Ireland (think Ring of Beara rural) and are driving around on their own fully masked up 😂
