Good. As we all should be. They’re not even asking for much? 3.4%?
It’s like the governments wants the police to be full of unqualified rejects, which is what the current pay attracts. No real professional is going to be joining the police on the salary they offer.
The officers cannot strike however so it looks like they’re going to be ‘working to rule’. It’ll be interesting to see how that works out and if the English Police Federation follows suit.
I know we all have our opinions on the police, but we cannot move forward to a reliable, decent police force if the officers themselves are struggling to make ends meet. It opens the door to corruption and resignations.
Good on them. Best of luck.
Interesting, I wonder if they will receive the same treatment by the right wing as the rail workers are getting, being described as greedy etc?
I expect that the sudden upsurge of anti-police reporting is a prelude to this. There hasn’t been any increases of misconduct or wrongdoing, but suddenly any police officer being accused of a crime is front page news…… right before a big pay dispute which has been expected for ages. But maybe my job has made me too cynical.
> blanket wage increase of 1.4%
That’s not even as high as the fantasy target 2%.
Strange that the SNP is allowing it to be an issue.
It’s a low amount compared to others.
Would their budgets be influenced by Westminster? If the UK government isn’t providing a sizeable increase due to inflation I could see the difficulty on committing to higher pay increases.
Unlike the railways no one would even notice if the police stopped work
After all that covering up for Johnson, you would have thought the police would have cut a sweet deal with the gov
Solidarity!
It’s almost (tragically) funny on one hand that the government is flirting with draconian legislation, but on the other treats the police who’d be crucial to enforcing it like absolute shit
Good for them! I know they don’t get the best press but most police are good people who deserve to be treated fairly, which they haven’t been since 2010, as is the same with all other public sector.
Odds on there being a new “variant of concern” if everyone plans on striking & protesting on a wider scale
So when this lot strike who gets to beat the fuck out of them and stitch them up for riot?
