  1. That’s nice of them.

Are the Tories going to condemn this ‘lack of pay restraint’, since I thought that was their policy, or is it in fact not their policy?

  2. Boris is the most corrupt PM we’ve ever had.

His Government has driven the UK economy to ruin, and delivered the worst growth in the G20 after Russia.

Brexit has been a catastrophe, and led to a more severe cost of living crisis for millions.

We must kick Boris and his enablers out next election.

  3. Yes, the one off payment is cheaper than them raising the wages. But, it’s something. And that’s better than nothing. They should be commended for that at least. It’s a good gesture

  4. It’s an interesting move from certain companies to give their staff a one off bonus at the same time as they give them a large pay cut in real terms.

Rolls-Royce are giving their staff a 4% pay rise in nominal terms. That’s 5% lower than the current CPI rate, 7% lower than the current RPI rate and 7% lower than the Bank of England’s projection for how high the CPI rate is going to get this year.

Even someone on a fairly modest salary at Rolls-Royce is seeing their income stay the same or drop slightly even if you include this £2,000 bonus which isn’t guaranteed for next yeaar.

So when the cost of living is *even higher* next year, they’ll need a proper inflationary bump in their salary as well as another £2,000 bonus just to stand still!

  5. This is brilliant and a nice thing to do, but I still feel that even 2k or 5k won’t go far in the scheme of things. Might relieve things for a little while, but only a little while.

  6. This thread is the epitome of r/unitedkingdom

People actually haven’t bothered to read the article (and thus understand the full details) before saying “£2000?? Pathetic”

  7. The unions are still fighting with my employer, no pay rise for 21/22 at all and I reckon we will be lucky to get 2% and a magnum ice lolly this year.

  8. This is not true. This pay offer has not been accepted by the union. The union is asking for an 8.8% increase. This is their second offer they’ve come back with. It will be rejected.

The offer is a 4% pay rise with £2000 one off bonus back dated to March.

These news stories about this are being released to try and pressure people to not vote against it. They’ve also sent out letters to home addresses trying to convince people to take it.

Pay cuts through covid and haven’t had a pay rise since 2019.

This pay rise won’t even cover the increase in my gas and electric bills.

  9. This isn’t a good headline.

    It needs to be:

#”Rolls-Royce gives one off handout to workers for disingenuous PR, as it is Cheaper than giving them a permanent raise”

  10. My employer is doing something similar, except it’s a one off £1000 payment, pre tax. Which is a lovely gesture, but I would have rather have had a pay rise that at least equalled inflation in March instead of a real-terms pay cut.

  11. I was watching pmq when Boris stated we have already had 22 billion pounds, I did laugh as that works out to £1600 per person in the UK. Not per house, per person!, I have a wife and two kids so we are £6200 short in my house.

  12. It’s welcome, too little, but better than a kick in the teeth.

Ps Lloyds gave 1k to help with cost of living, so in comparison rolls Royce is twice as good.
