“We aim to maximize the diversification of our gas supply routes. Ukraine proposes establishing a strategic energy security bridge with Canada, focused on supplying Canadian LNG to Ukraine,” Ukrainian Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal stated.
“In fulfillment of the agreements reached between President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the Prime Minister of Canada, we discussed the preparation and advantages of concluding a long-term, 30-year strategic energy agreement with Canada’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Tim Hodgson,” Shmyhal added.
Shmyhal and Hodgson also discussed Ukraine’s preparations for the upcoming winter, specifically examining a potential 650 million Canadian dollar direct grant from Canada to purchase natural gas as part of this year’s overall assistance package.
Shmyhal stated that Ukraine has also offered its gas storage facilities to Canadian gas suppliers.
“We value the assistance provided through the Energy Support Fund; Canada’s total contributions have already reached 90 million Canadian dollars,” Shmyhal noted.
Naftogaz Group and U.S.-based Argent LNG signed a cooperation agreement in July to purchase, transport, and distribute American LNG to Ukraine and broader markets across Central, Eastern, and Southern Europe.
Naftogaz partnered with Polish state energy giant Orlen in early February to deliver Ukraine’s first shipment of American liquefied natural gas for 2026.
