A video that captured the heroic rescue of a child by a teenage lifeguard at Seabright Beach over the weekend in Santa Cruz County has drawn presidential approval.

Scott Vander Dussen, who recorded the video, told KNTV that a 10-year-old boy was struggling in the water as waves repeatedly crashed over him.

A 16-year-old lifeguard sprang into action, rushing toward the boy and attempting to pull him back to shore.

Other beachgoers arrived and helped the lifeguard and child out of the ocean.

Vander Dussen said paramedics evaluated the boy before releasing him to his parents.

The dramatic rescue caught the attention of President Donald Trump. He posted on Truth Social in response to son Eric Trump sharing the video that the lifeguard deserved to be honored at the White House.

“We’re going to bring this heroic young man, and his family, into the White House with, perhaps the boy he saved, to give him a High Civilian Honor. Very brave, he deserves it!” Trump posted.

Asked for more details, the White House referred KCRA 3 to the Truth Social post.

Hazardous surf conditions are forecast to persist through Wednesday.
