this week on people making hilariously inaccurate assumptions about Ireland:

  1. Yes. Every day I walk around Drumcondra I find myself having to dodge an endless parade of armed terrorists and crazed shooters armed with semi-automatics. Oh, for the peaceful urban tranquility of Detroit.

  2. The Troubles did feature a number of “mass shootings” but they were generally targeted atrocities and not the *ad hoc* killing sprees by lone gunmen as is common in the US.

    Kingsmill, etc, were appalling crimes.

  3. The funniest part about this is that the only part of Ireland that could even be remotely be considered to be true about is the north, which is not infact part of the republic of Ireland and so reflects on how dangerous the united kingdom is/was.

  4. “Had” is the key part. It’s calmed down a lot over the past 25 years. You still hear of viable explosives from time to time, but it’s nothing like the 80s or 90s.

  5. I got a chicken fillet roll yesterday and yer man accidently put one of his grenades in the roll instead of the chicken. Since he had so many behind the counter. We had a great laugh about it.

  6. The Troubles caused about 3,500 deaths over a 30 year span.

There was over 45,000 gun related deaths in US in 2020 alone.
