Electrogrup, part of the E-INFRA Group, has completed the first phase of the Gura Ialomitei project and is also the EPC contractor for the second phase.
Electrogrup, a company with nearly 30 years of experience as a general contractor for energy infrastructure, telecommunications, and civil engineering in Romania, is building the second phase of the Gura Ialomiței BESS project, developed by the pan-European platform Aukera. With a total capacity of 250 MW/500 MWh, this is the largest battery energy storage system in Romania, and the second phase, with a capacity of 100 MW/200 MWh, is scheduled to begin commercial operation in early 2027.
“We are proud to be the EPC contractor for the Gura Ialomiței project and thank Aukera for the trust they have placed in us. The first phase, with a capacity of 150 MW / 300 MWh, was delivered in just seven months after work began—one of the fastest completions of its kind in Romania—and our teams have the expertise and resources needed to complete the second phase to the same standard and within the agreed-upon deadlines. Collaborating with a developer of Aukera’s caliber reflects the maturity of this sector and the confidence in the quality of Romanian execution,” Teodor Saru, CEO of Electrogrup, stated.
Romania has become one of the most active energy storage markets in Europe, driven by the rapid growth of wind and solar capacity, which requires grid balancing solutions. In this context, once completed, Gura Ialomiței will be the largest storage system in the country: it takes the surplus renewable energy and feeds it back into the grid when needed, supporting the stability of the power supply and a more efficient use of existing power grids, without additional investments.
With the completion of this project, Electrogrup becomes the first company in Romania to complete energy storage projects with over 1 GWh of installed storage capacity for various investors. The company aims to have its cumulative battery energy storage portfolio reach 4 GWh within 24 months.
