It’s time to state the blindingly obvious – these are Tory rail strikes

  1. >And they’re out. The [rail strike](https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/national-rail-strike-rmt-b2105645.html) has begun and Big Dog Boris Johnson is rubbing his sweaty hands together in the hopes of squeezing some political advantage from the country being at a standstill.

    >I want to play too, shouts gormless Grant Shapps from the Department for Transport. It’s a marvellous opportunity to shift the narrative away from our own dismal failures and the latest scandal(s) engulfing Number 10! Such as, I don’t know, behaving like a plastic Putin, [allegedly doling out dodgy jobs for cronies/lovers](https://www.independent.co.uk/voices/carriegate-boris-johnson-carrie-times-b2105238.html), and let’s not forget [parties, parties and more parties](https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/boris-johnson-labour-prime-minister-downing-street-government-b2102183.html), while people were dying.

  2. Lord can something not be what it is without claims it’s a cover up? The news is capable of discussing multiple topics at the same time

  3. Ah another Leftie paper. The Government has not been directly involved in union negotiations for over 40yrs. And I’ve said it before, I actually think rail workers are on good money.

Rail travel assistants – £33,310 – includes ticket collectors, guards and information staff.
Rail construction and maintenance operatives – £34,998 – they lay and repair tracks.
Rail transport operatives – £48,750 – includes signallers and drivers’ assistants.
Train and tram drivers – £59,189.

  4. How’s it all going:

    and:

  5. The damage done to Unions over the last 40 years has led to the low pay low rights gig economy, so bashing ‘The Unions’ only plays to the ‘Tory Massive’ hopefully we are seeing the tipping point and people will finally see how exploited workers really are…

  6. The flabby incompetent Tory government is proud of being unable to do anything about an issue affecting thousands upon thousand of people and probably having a big effect on the economy.

  7. So what’s the desired outcome? Unions get their 7-8% pay increase, redundant staff are kept on, etc, what do we do about the black hole that creates in terms of finances while passenger numbers are down 20%?

It’s clearly not sustainable as it stands so I take it those in support will stop working from home to do your bit for the workers? Will you accept fee increases to cover the costs? An increase in taxation for yourselves or cuts to other services?

  8. The only part of the network the Labour Party has any control over is Transport for Wales, and the Welsh Government sat down with the unions and came to an agreement which has avoided a strike. Unfortunately most TfW trains still can’t run because the signalling on the lines is controlled by Network Rail UK wide and so the signallers are on strike.

  9. We cannot bear much more of this tory chaos. This government is hopefully going to go down as the one that broke the tories (just as the 70s broke Labour). They are screwed after this parliament. They have become toxic even to some of their previously most fervent supporters amongst friends and relatives. Shame we have to suffer these deplorables and their destructive policies for a couple more years though…

  10. Problem here is that the media will be doing their usual propaganda pieces to blame everyone but the Tories who caused the issues in the first place. If the average person in this country had woken up and realise that the mainstream media is nothing more than a Tory mouthpiece they would not have fallen for all the smears on Jeremy Corbyn and we may have had a Labour government but the average reader of papers believes all the bs spouted that favours the Tories and the msm will not the truth stand in the way of sensationalist headlines that portray the Tory Party as the saviour of the UK.
