Los estadounidenses viven en un mundo paralelo.

Por fin las embajadas catalanas empiezan a dar sus frutos
For people who speak English: How is this happening? How are these people so fucking stupid?
I have an anecdote.
I took Spanish in high school. I did well in the class but I was probably an average non-native almost-speaker at best. I had one class with a substitute teacher who insisted on Castilian for his one class. OK fine whatever.
Later in my adult life, I was contemplating a move to Spain (which I’ve now done). Back before I did it, I decided to brush up on Castilian Spanish and took a class (there were no Catalan classes in my city near me).
The course book had a map of “all” of the Spanish-speaking countries.
It was a map of Mexico, the Caribbean, Central America, and South America. There were no references to Spain at all. The ONLY mention of Spain in that class was when they asked each student why they were learning Spanish and I said I was doing so because I wanted to live in Spain. That was the first and last time Spain was mentioned. By me.
This is what adults are being taught. I shudder at what children are likely being taught.
Bueno, yo hubiera dicho que nadie es tan estúpido para decir eso pero aquí estamos :v
Leyenda negra obrando… 😑
Estadounidenses tenían que ser
Mama siempre decía que la vida era como una caja de chocolates.
First I really thought they are referring to Spain being made up, in reference to it having many ongoing independence movements.
Had to go to the comments to figure out this is actually lack of education.
Español se traduce de dos maneras distintas.
“Spanish” -> Español (lenguaje)
“Spaniard” -> Español (persona)
De ahí la confusión.
Do you think these people are aware there is also a country called England, where English came from, although not evidently quite in the form they speak.
