WESTLAKE, Ohio (WOIO) – A 22-year-old Bay Village man was arrested early Friday morning after crashing his car into a Westlake home, then fleeing the scene.
According to a release from Westlake Police, at around 5:45 a.m., a caller reported that a man was standing outside of a black BMW on the roadway in the Settlers Reserve neighborhood.
The caller said that the man was yelling loudly, creating a noise disturbance.
When officers arrived, they found that the car was driving on a flat tire on Settlers Reserve Way.
Police said the driver stopped when officers pulled him over.
As officers were investigating the car, Westlake Police and Fire were called to a house in the 27000 block of Bassett Road for a natural gas leak.
While the resident on Bassett was trying to determine where the gas odor was coming from, he reviewed his surveillance cameras to see a black BMW drive out of control through his yard, according to the release.
Police said the BMW clipped the home gas meter and a water spigot before fleeing the scene.
The driver, a 22-year-old Bay Village man, admitted to being involved in the collision with the house.
Police said he appeared intoxicated and was field tested before being arrested for OVI and hit-and-skip.
He refused a breath test, according to the release.
Westlake Fire contacted Columbia Gas to repair the gas line.
