A controversial plan by a major Dutch party promises sweeping border changes that could test EU rules and spark fierce political debate.
According to the Twitter account @fvdemocratie, the party’s statement on the social network X contains a call to stop admitting asylum seekers and to withdraw the country from the EU.
The Dutch FVD party (“Forum for Democracy”), known for its pro-Russian views and criticism of the EU–Ukraine agreement, has proposed a complete halt to accepting asylum seekers and to leaving the EU.
In a statement on the X platform, the party proposed stopping the reception of refugees, initiating the Netherlands’ exit from the EU (NEXIT), and strengthening the deportation policy.
“The Spanish government has opened the gates for tens of thousands of asylum seekers. Having obtained a Spanish residence permit, they can travel across Europe. Border policy must be radically changed. FVD calls for stopping the intake of asylum seekers, NEXIT (the Netherlands’ withdrawal from the EU), and strengthening the return and deportation policy”

The statement also emphasizes the need for a radical overhaul of border policy and the strengthening of refugee return measures, which the party regards as critically important for national security and sovereignty.
FVD has previously repeatedly criticized the EU agreement and advocated for tougher positions on migration and the Netherlands’ sovereignty, as well as for reviewing existing European obligations. The statement emphasizes that such steps should form the basis of the country’s foreign policy.
