Dublin progresses smart city vision with free public WiFi – fair play to DCC (for once)

  1. To be fair this is one of the few projects that makes some actual sense.

A lot better than white water rafting in the capital anyway.

  2. Free public wifi managed by a government agency.

Best get a VPN (who will also fuck you but at least you know who is fucking you)

  3. Meath County Council have been rolling that out during the last month. 2 towns have public WiFi now so it’s not as much of a pie in the sky idea as it was in the past.

  4. Might have been useful 10 years ago. You can get a months data for less than the price of two pints of Guinness nowadays.

  5. Connecting to open public WiFi is not without its risks. Personally I wouldn’t connect and my work devices specifically prohibit it, so not like I could go to a coffee shop etc and log in to do some work

Most packages now come with either unlimited or insane amounts of data. Some will use it but honesty it’s 10 years too late. It’s certainly not going to be a deciding reason for anyone to shop in the city

  6. Jaysus. Cause the most dire thing we need is free Wi-Fi for which they will spend millions. Talk about priorities.
