Donald Trump initiated two moves over the weekend aimed at trying to extract the Middle East from its stalemate. According to briefings in Washington, the U.S. president is preparing for a broad resumption of the war with Iran, including strikes on the country’s energy infrastructure. It’s possible that this would be done with the assistance of Israel or that Iran would attack Israel in response to the American move, drawing it in again into the confrontation. The alert level in the Israeli military remains particularly high, accordingly.
