Cheyenne, Wyo. – Organized by sponsors and community members… politics on the plaza hosted its debut event. The gathering serving as a movement to support the city-wide petition against the annexation of the 3,460 acres of land to house Microsoft Data Centers.
Pioneer of Ordinance No. 4687 Referendum Petition Kay McAdams explains why she began this movement. McAdams says, “I just would like to have to see a vote in this city about the annexation of these data centers, it’s so much land.”
The gathering also featured political candidates running for office such as Wyoming Governor candidate Brent Bien, Secretary of State Chuck Gray and U.S. Representative for Wyoming Harriet Hageman. Guest Speaker Trent Loos explains the message he has in support of the petition. Loos says, “We need to maintain local control, our Constitution says that our local government, people need to engage.”
Going into the event, the petition was standing at 1,700 signatures and would need 3,000 total. All who sign must be registered voters within Cheyenne City limits. This would then qualify as a referendum vote in the November 2026 General Election.
McAdams says, “Just interested in really representing this community all across the board.”
The petition will be available at the U.S. Post Office off of Converse and Ross Clothing Store through Friday August 7th.
