6,000 greyhounds killed in Ireland each year

  1. Genuinely don’t understand why the government allows it to continue. There can’t be that many involved in the industry and so they are hardly a big voting block. It’s nobodies’ decider issue for the party they’ll vote for anyway. Just relegate it to the bin of history and we can all move on.

That RTE documentary on the greyhounds was awful. Still see the poor dog getting cooked alive in my head occasionally.

  2. Very bleak indeed. Seems like one of those things we should relegate to history like Bear Baiting and Cock Fighting. I won’t call it a sport because to me sport involves physical and mental exertion on the part of human beings, none of which is present in greyhound racing.

I wouldn’t mind, they’re such a loveable, placid breed. They just want to be loved. 6,000 a year and that’s just what we know of.

For the poster calling it a “touchstone of rural Ireland”, just because something brings people together doesn’t mean it should be legal. There’s more harm in greyhound racing then there is in having a bunch of yokes at a rave in Dublin – but guess what? It’s not legal even though it’s a “cultural touchstone”.

  3. My taxes support this. I fucking hate it. Should be illegal. Inhumane and disgusting industry that relies on government funding every year. Fucking cunts

  4. As a lifelong vegetarian who was raised that way by my parents, I’m always puzzled by what animals we do and don’t give a shit about. Does grayhound racing seem somehow frivolous to people because you don’t get calories from watching them run, the way you do from eating a steak?

  5. If you think this is bad look into the short horrible lives millions of pigs endure in this country every year before they end up in your breakfast roll.

  6. Timely!

I adopted one yesterday because of this!

He’s pissed on all my house plants and is occasionally howling from 6am.
