GRAND FORKS — Grafton and Devils Lake will play in American Legion baseball state tournament championship games.
Thompson is also one step away.
In Lisbon in the Class B state tournament, Grafton awaits the winner of Thompson and Garrison for Monday’s championship. Grafton would need to be defeated twice as the lone unbeaten remaining.
Grafton’s position was secured with a 13-3 win over Garrison on Sunday. Thompson kept its hopes alive with loser-out wins Sunday against Burlington (7-2) and Lisbon (4-0).
The championship game in Lisbon will be played 25 minutes after the Thompson-Garrison loser-out matchup at 1:30 p.m.
In Williston in the Class A state tournament, Devils Lake beat Casselton 4-2 to win an 18th straight game. Devils Lake will play the Fargo Jets in Monday’s championship. The Jets would need to beat Devils Lake twice.
In Thompson’s win over Burlington, Kaden Loiland threw six innings, allowing three hits and struck out seven. In the 4-0 win over Lisbon, Dex Avdem, Loiland and Cooper Larson each had two hits.
Grafton’s 13-3 win over Garrison was highlighted by Cameron Fraser’s 4-for-4 showing at the plate.
Devils Lake’s win Sunday was sparked by pitcher Cayden McCarthy, who threw a complete game and struck out five while walking one. Devils Lake and the Jets play at noon, with a 2:30 p.m. second championship if needed.
