A free and fair press, not a propaganda machine at all.
>Downing Street has confirmed that members of Boris Johnson’s team intervened following the publication of a story about his wife Carrie in The Times, but denied that the prime minister himself contacted the paper to complain.
>
>The story, which alleged that Mr Johnson had attempted to install Carrie in a £100,00-a-year job in the foreign office at a time when he was conducting a secret affair with her, appeared in the first edition of the newspaper on Saturday, but vanished from later copies and a version also disappeared from the Mail Online website.
> Downing Street has confirmed that members of Boris Johnson’s team intervened following the publication of **a story about his wife Carrie** in The Times
The story, [*Johnson tried to give Carrie top Foreign Office job during affair*](https://archive.ph/PNxjT/14c91b10d666958fa665a4f08f2048ba42fbcf3e.jpg), is not “about Carrie” but about Johnson. The substantive allegation being that he attempted to abuse his position as a minister to procure a six figure salary for his mistress, at taxpayer expense and in clear breach of the ministerial code.
Someone has been working very hard to bury Politico’s bit on this here this morning:
I hope for once this isn’t buried by the 24hr news cycle and gets some serious attention, because this is seriously worrying… The Times is ostensibly one of the UK’s more respectable papers so if it did bury a story at the behest of No10, alarm bells should be ringing :/
The tories always want to “move on”, and the result is moving onto the next shit pile they’ve created
Whilst we all know that No.10 have been manipulating us all through the press for years, it’s always interesting to see what happens when it gets exposed
This needs to be hammered home at PMQs.
I get a little bit why Starmer stays away from some policy items but this is massive. It shows how we need a functioning government and press right now.
All the signs of a leader with nothing to hide and not worried about their image whatsoever.
How much more is Johnson going to get away with? The Tories have their hands on the BBC after the last contract negotiation and have enough influence over the big papers to bury had news such as this too. We’re a long way off China but we are nowhere near a free press either.
…What’ll happen?….
yet again there’ll be a load of hot air, a blustered apology and a divine command to ‘draw a line under it’. Followed by himself bowling along as usual. That’s what’ll happen.
>Johnson, who was foreign secretary from July 2016 to July 2018, wanted to install Carrie Symonds to the position on a salary of at least £100,000 but allies intervened, fearing it would be a flagrant abuse of ethics.
When has that ever stopped him?
They don’t even bother lying about stuff anymore. Just admit it and move on.
We are all being taken for such a fucking ride. Grow some balls Starmer and tackle Johnson head on.
lmao imagine thinking we have free and unbias media in this country
Uh oh. Looks like another junior member of government will be falling in their sword to save Big Dog.
It’s good that the Times capitulated and exposed the pressure from Johnson’s team.
Streisand would be proud of this publicity.
The Times you say? Owned and controlled by that nice Mr Murdoch? Well, I’m shocked. Shocked I tell you. Whodathunkit?
what do you expect from Boris Yelts… I mean Boris Johnson.
Or in other words:
> Boris Johnson threatens newspaper into not reporting on a possible crime he committed
The scandal here is that No. 10 was successful in influencing the news that was published.
When will these corrupt cunts resign for breaking the ministerial code?
It is what the Tory electorate voted for, it is representative of their values and mentality.
Presumably this will mean nothing and everything will continue as per usual.
Can we just cut to the bit where we are building statues of Boris, and in schools there is a picture of him in every classroom with children pledging their allegiance?
This sleep walking period is boring.
“I’ve taken full responsibility for it (but done absolutely nothing), I consider the matter closed (go away and stop asking questions now, please), it’s time to move on (no really, stop asking questions, it’s getting hard to keep a straight face), people want us to get on with delivering what’s important to them (a corrupt, broken, nationalist, populist hellscape)”
Didn’t he do something similar with Jennifer Arcuri when he was London Mayor? (Awarded her some big contract??)
Finally beginning to understand how this ugly Moppet has such a track record with the ladies.
Putting gate at the end of all these scandals reminds you how much of an impact watergate had. But nowadays it seem quant, we let our leaders get away with so much more. Never held to account.
He needs dragged from office and put in stocks, preferably in Rwanda
From an article I found listing 12 early signs of fascism.
I will say that even though the government doesn’t fully control all media in the UK, government censoring news about the current PM and his corruption definitely counts.
Come on Kier – are you going to do anything . Boris is literally leaving the goal unguarded – you need to just tap it in to score.
Scandal pon scandal pon scandal, incrementally seeming less and less a deal, until the compliant population actually starts dismissing them as Boris bashing. Man I hate this shit piece country.
Edit typologification
Another day, another story,
that reminds me to never, ever, vote Tory.
The mind boggles at how Tories play things straight by the Nazi parties play book, and yet CONS +5
Starting to think the British people honestly don’t deserve/want democracy
Jesus fucking Christ the ABSOLUTE STATE OF THIS COUNTRY.
And how as of this very second is it not even a top TEN story on the BBC?
The polls suggest that 30% of the voting public will not be swayed by any amount of corruption at this stage.
What more do you need to not vote for he current government again than them admitting to pressuring a large news outlet into not publishing something they don’t want. No matter what the story is if it’s true it should print and if the government wants it to stop then even more reason to print it.
Pressuring a national paper to drop a story about him trying to get his unqualified mistress a high paying government job, while his actual wife was being treated for cancer.
If this were a storyline on some BBC government fiction thriller show, I’d think it was badly written for being too ridiculous and over the top.
Watch this pass through the news cycle with no repurcussions.
He’s got it spot on, create so many controversies that the public become jaded and they no longer stick.
This is why people care so much about the parties. It wasn’t the fact that people were upset that he stopped for 5 mins to have a cake, or that people had a drink here and there (Yes, I know there were instances worse than that, I’m just making a point). It was the fact that we have a sitting prime minister **who has no problem with breaking the law at will.** I don’t want to hear, ‘yeah but Labour,’ or any both sides bullshit, this is a problem we have NOW.
Seriously, where does it end? ‘Oh it was only a bit of cake.’ ‘Oh it was only a gossip story’. ‘Oh, he’s only lying to the house.’ ‘Oh, he only accepted a small bribe’ etc.
We need to cut this shit out before it gets worse.
Isn’t that what an honest government would call *intimidation*? Sounds a bit corrupt.
Dominic Cummings said this morning the story was true and this was a coverup. He said 2 weeks ago in an interview that the government had spent tens of millions on bribes to the press, under the name of “covid relief” in the budget, to write favourably for them.
I’m not gonna allow the latter statement to slip away. Why has this not been expanded upon? Get Cummings back before a panel, ASAP, with evidence to testify to this effect. If that’s proven, it would tear apart the entire cabinet, potentially the Tory party itself. Bribery, false and illegal use of taxpayer money, corruption…
This government deserves to spend the remainder of their lives in prison.

Anyways, if you want to check out what the wanted buried:

Well that’s fucking terrifying!

So when is the general election?
Only news we need relating to Boris.
Yes?
