That’s a misleading headline, it should be alcoholics most likely to have no money
The tragic legacy of the SNP. Over a decade of mismanagement. What a farce.
Aye, it skins you before it kills you
Almost like making alcohol more expensive means those with addiction don’t magically stop, but instead turn to worse quality alcohol or even worse alternatives such as methylated spirits.
And none of them were magically cured by increasing the cost of booze.
How is it that the poor, can afford the drink so much? They also say the same regards obesity, so again how come these poor people can afford to eat so much crap?
Like any addiction it can strike anyone. There needs to be more substantial support/an easy to turn to service, especially for those who maybe don’t fit the stereotype of a struggling alcoholic but are nonetheless maybe functioning but still drinking at levels that will kill them/harm their lives (and the lives of those around them).
If the government believes in the mantra of Drink Responsibly it should look like it means it and ban alcohol advertising and replace it with adverts for Drinkline.
I think the stigma, like that surrounding drug addicts, can prevent people from seeking help so I think there needs to be a whole culture shift to one of unconditional support (as we should also treat drug addiction as a health issue and not a crime but a cause of crime)
When a big percentage of the population is getting blackout trolleyed every weekend and calling that fun we need to take a proper look at why that’s happening. It is possible to drink responsibly and have fun but drinking to obliteration is surely evidence that people need support.
Just my thoughts
How are there poor in one of the richest areas of Britain, with the most funding and a devolved government that can do no wrong?
Errr Westminster!
What benefits is Scotland getting from the union? Highest deprivation, alcohol and drug issues consistently. What is Holyrood/Westminster politics doing
