Letting off helium-filled balloons to mark an occasion is stupid

  1. Yep.

I very politely left a comment on an event that was happening in my area recently to remember someone, and it was going to be a balloon release, basically saying its a wonderful cause but what about planting a tree or something instead of balloons and I was shot down, called a troll, a nasty cunt, an interfering bitch…. that was fun.

  2. You should really use sulfur hexafluoride filled balloons instead.

They may not be great for the environment, but they should be easier to clean up.

  3. And those Chinese lanterns cause a lot of problems for the RNLI in coastal areas. they get plagued with calls about distress flares at sea.

  4. Very stupid, and should be illegal. Would it be possible to target the companies who sell them? Put a heavy environmental tax on them or something like that. Especially for large amounts, that are likely to be released on purpose.

  5. Last summer I went fishing out on a boat in Dublin bay. By far the number one piece of rubbish we saw on the sea was balloons like this.

  6. Its also a massive waste of helium which we are globally running out of. Also thanks to the Russian-Ukraine war I think 3 of the 5 Helium plants in the world are either in the war zone or we are not allowed trade with.

  7. Jesus, I saw the photo and thought it was a pair of knickers and was like, what sort of creep fucker wears those. Then I realised what it actually was!

  8. The sort of person who even buys “Holy Communion” balloons isn’t too fussed about the environment

  9. Some gobshites recently let some off for a cringe gender reveal. It was full to the hilt of confetti…. All over the grass. Did they clean it up? Not a chance! Destroying the environment that those kids have to grow up in

I’d nearly love of an asteroid hit this planet. A great reset is the only thing saving this planet from becoming like the opening sequence of wall-e

  10. I was at one recently and the kid let go of his one by accident and me and my friend were inconsolable because he just went ‘uhhh’ and tried to grab it and his mam was like ‘Ah jimmy for fuck sake’ I mean it’s really on whoever got it for cheaping out on a string and weight

  11. When you release a helium balloon or balloons in this way it is littering in the same way as throwing something on the ground is. People should be fined for littering for doing it. Mass balloon releases should be banned if we are being logical as they can do [significant environmental damage](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n0CT8zrw6lw).
