Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Dana Gas and Crescent Petroleum have officially begun supplying natural gas from the Khor Mor gas field to power stations operated by Iraq’s Ministry of Electricity in Kirkuk, marking a significant step toward strengthening the country’s electricity supply.
The companies announced on Tuesday that the deliveries are being made under an agreement signed with Iraq’s Ministry of Electricity in December 2025. The initial one-year deal provides 100 million standard cubic feet of natural gas per day from the Khor Mor gas processing facility to the Taza gas-fired power plant in Kirkuk.
The new supply is expected to support electricity generation and improve power services across Iraq by providing a stable source of fuel for the national grid.
According to the joint statement, the gas supply agreement follows the successful completion of the Khor Mor 250 expansion project, which entered operation in October 2025.
The expansion increased the processing capacity of the Khor Mor facility by 50%, raising production to 750 million standard cubic feet per day. The additional capacity has enabled Dana Gas and Crescent Petroleum to expand sales and serve new domestic markets through the Kurdistan Region’s gas pipeline network.
Majid Jafar, CEO of Crescent Petroleum and Managing Director of Dana Gas, described the first delivery to Iraq’s Ministry of Electricity as a major milestone in developing the Kurdistan Region’s natural gas sector.
He said the project will help meet Iraq’s growing electricity demand while improving public services, thanking the Kurdistan Regional Government, local authorities in Sulaymaniyah, and Iraq’s Ministry of Electricity for their continued cooperation.
Richard Hall, CEO of Dana Gas, said the agreement demonstrates the benefits of the company’s ongoing expansion strategy.
“The additional production capacity created by the Khor Mor 250 project provides the foundation for broader cooperation in Iraq’s growing energy market, strengthening energy security and supporting more reliable electricity services,” Hall said.
The start of gas supplies from Khor Mor reflects Iraq’s broader efforts to diversify fuel sources for power generation and reduce electricity shortages. Expanding domestic natural gas production is expected to play an increasingly important role in improving energy security while supporting long-term economic development.
