Ireland in 1450

  1. Before the King of England had Dublin the Normans took it from the Vikings.
The Vikings of course established the city too.
Kind of wild that Dublin was always in the hands of “foreigners”

  2. Any good book recommendations for the history of people in Ireland? Like along these lines.. what peoples were here first, who took over what, where, when, etc..

  3. The Burkes in two seperate holdings would’ve been “de Burgh” originally right? What made them less anglo-norman/old English than some of the other lordships?

  4. Always interested in this period. It’s poignant in Dundalk as it stood as the most famous “edge of the Pale” I believe because it received the most attacks of any Pale garrison, mostly from the Native Ulster clans.

Still somewhat of a culture of that in the area in a weird way, the Cooley and South Armagh and Monaghan men coming into town of a weekend, causing ruckus. Good fun.
