Massive protests in Serbia against Rio Tinto last night. Serbia’s government is doing everything to support Rio Tinto, even changing its constitution. Next protest is on Sunday, 12am.

I also advise people from Romania and Bulgaria to protest in front of our embassies, since all that pollution will flow downstream in Danube.

  2. Oh holy shit, I know this company!

I’m from Arizona, and a few years ago the Obama administration gave approval for Rio Tinto to build a copper mine which would have poisoned our very limited groundwater supply. Luckily the sale was blocked, but fuck them for even trying to put profits over the lives of those who live here.

If you don’t mind me asking, why are you protesting? Like you have my support, and I’m only asking because I like to be informed on these subjects.

  3. Rio Tonto…aren’t they in Utah too? Believe they bought out Kennecott Copper mine. Interesting

  4. For those unaware Rio Tinto is infamous for destroying cultural herritige for their mines and absolute disregard for enviorment. Serbia is already poisoning much of its lands and we’re tired of it.

  5. Good.

Rio Tinto is one of those corporations which is almost cartoonishly evil, but yet most people would have never heard of them.

  6. I support these protests but it bugs me: Lithium is becoming an increasingly more important resource due to all the EVs and battery. So, where will we get it from then? Things like these makes me really wary of people saying we can solve climate issues by driving electric and storing renewable energy in battery farms.

  7. We really needed the separation of church and state in the renaissance, we now need something similar for corporations.

  8. You guys just scared tf out of me hahaha. I live in a Portuguese city called Rio Tinto and I was like: what have we done now?

  9. If we allow those Western “investors” in our country, we’re doomed. It’s a far better idea to support Chinese investments. When the Chinese do something wrong, the Western propaganda makes sure we learn about that so they have to correct it. When the Westerners destroy us, they make sure they do it quietly.

  10. Meanwhile, they are thinking about exploring lithium in Northern Portugal and our illustrious urbanites in the capital are not coming out to protest.

  11. He better get the fuck outta dodge. Many a prime minister in Serbia was buried in a shallow grave in Belgrade.
Serbs aren’t big on due process.

  12. Good luck brothers! Don’t give in and keep protesting!
As a little fact we are facing a similar problem in Romania starting with 2013, regarding Rosia Montana. Until this day the RMGC company still did not get the approval to start mining there, but as far as I know they are still trying very hard to get approved.
