Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says Canada is looking at expanding energy infrastructure to help Europe over the “medium term” to transition away from Russian oil and gas.
This expansion would take three or four years before it was usable as they would be converting a lng import facility into export and it would need a lng supply.
The fact Europe relies so much on natural gas for heating and energy is unbelievable to me.
We can get oil from almost anywhere in the world, but shipping natural gas is very difficult and costly.
Docks at ports need to be specifically built to accept it and most ports and dock workers do not like it, getting the natural gas off a ship is very dangerous work.
In the industry we call ships carrying natural gas floating bombs.
And now gas reliant countries in Europe need to ship this stuff from Canada to avoid Putin blackmailing them.
Reliance on natural gas in Europe has been a costly disaster for Europe, and a very costly one for Ukrainians.
