SKANDIA, Mich. (WLUC) – The Skandia Farmers Market is happy to say business has been great so far this summer.
The market opened back in May and has seen an increase in new vendors since then. Skandia Farmers Market Owner Olivia Devooght says the market has around twenty vendors per week.
The market gives community members a chance to shop for fresh produce and other goods, such as baskets, charms, and much more, and helps support local growers.
Devooght says what makes a farmers’ market unique and brings customers in is the sense of community.
“I think just the ability to buy your food local. You know where it came from, you know that it’s going to be healthy,” Devooght said. “You know it’s not chemicals, GMO-free, things like that. You know we care about the people in the community, so we want to produce a good product that people are going to enjoy and keep coming back week after week.”
The market is open every Wednesday until Oct. 28 from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m.
