The legislation window for the CLARITY Act to pass before the August deadline appears to be closing quickly, but experts believe the delay would not change the overall “direction” of the cryptocurrency market.

Not the End of the World

Chris Kline, COO & Co-Founder at BitcoinIRA, told Benzinga that the market is growing more comfortable separating “short-term political timelines” from “long-term structural adoption.”

“That momentum doesn’t simply disappear because Congress misses an August deadline,” he added. “A delay to the CLARITY Act would certainly be disappointing, but I don’t think it changes the direction of travel for digital assets.”

Kline also noted that Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC) has held up better than expected, despite the overhang. In fact, the apex cryptocurrency is up 1.20% over the week.

Analyst Says Bill Failure Could Lead to ‘Short-Term Disappointment’

Joshua Kim, CEO and Founder of decentralized crowdfunding platform DonaFi, made a similar observation.

“If it [CLARITY Act] slips, I’d expect a short-term disappointment rather than a structural setback. The bigger story is that Washington is still moving toward a clearer crypto framework, even if the timeline stretches,” Kim added.

The arguments came alongside a note from Bitwise Chief Investment Officer Matt Hougan, who said the SEC would step in with rule-making if the CLARITY Act misses this week’s deadline.

Crypto Chases ‘CLARITY’

The Polymarket bet on whether the CLARITY becomes law in 2026 crashed to 17% on Wednesday, down from an 50% only a month ago.

Senate Democrats will reportedly deny cloture, leaving the bill short of the 60 votes needed to advance.

The Senate heads into recess at the end of this week. If the bill does not clear before then, September becomes the next realistic window, and a failed September vote likely pushes it past the midterms entirely.

At the center of the dispute is President Donald Trump’s $1.4 billion windfall from meme coins and cryptocurrency ventures.
