The 1903 Tour de France was the first cycling race set up and sponsored by the newspaper L’Auto, ancestor of the current daily, L’Équipe. It ran from 1 to 19 July in six stages over 2,428 km.

If it is a diffcult race now, then it had to be hell
Was there no version of a ‟T-Shirt” back in those days? These old timey pictures always have people wearing arguably WAY too much clothes for what they are doing. Think of when you see pictres of entire crowds of men in suites and hats attending ball games, etc.
Did ‟formality” truly trump comfort that much back then or what? What do not I understand?
