For more than 60 years, Argyronisos has remained largely unchanged. The 60-acre private island in Greece‘s northern Aegean Sea has served as a family retreat, an organic olive farm, and, more recently, a wellness destination, all while operating almost entirely off the grid.
Now, after more than six decades under the same ownership, the island is entering its next chapter. Listed by Engel & Völkers Greece, Argyronisos—also known as Silver Island—is one of a small number of privately owned islands in the country. Many of Greece’s thousands of islands are protected or publicly owned, making privately held islands with existing homes and infrastructure relatively uncommon. Located in the sheltered Gulf of Pteleos, Argyronisos has been powered primarily by solar energy for years and has been carefully preserved rather than extensively developed.

Instead of a single main residence, the island is home to 11 stone buildings tucked into the landscape. They include a main house, a two-story villa, a traditional stone cottage, a caretaker’s home, several smaller residences, and a historic Greek Orthodox chapel. Ancient olive trees, cypress groves, wildflowers, secluded coves, and private beaches cover much of the property, while a deep-water dock and helipad make the island easily accessible.

“What makes Argyronisos truly exceptional is that its luxury isn’t defined by overdevelopment, but by six decades of loving stewardship, total autonomy, and absolute privacy,” George Petras, CEO of Engel & Völkers Greece, said in a statement. “It stands as one of the most distinctive trophy assets currently available along the European coastline.”
According to the brokerage, the island has welcomed entrepreneurs, artists, and other high-profile guests seeking privacy over the years, though it’s never operated as a large commercial resort. More recently, it’s hosted small wellness retreats while remaining primarily a private family property.

Located just off the northern coast of Evia, Greece’s second-largest island, Argyronisos is about a 50-minute helicopter flight from Athens and is also accessible by private boat from the mainland. Its location places it within easy reach of the Sporades islands, including Skiathos, Skopelos, and Alonnisos, making it an ideal base for sailing and exploring the northern Aegean.
While the island is fully operational in its current form, Engel & Völkers Greece says there is also room for future development, subject to local planning approvals. Argyronisos is listed for 35 million euros, or about $40 million.
