SPORTFIVE has brokered a new multi-territory media rights agreement between Liga Portugal and DAZN, further expanding the international reach of Portugal’s top-flight football competition across Europe and Asia ahead of the 2026-27 season.

Under the agreement, DAZN has secured exclusive rights to broadcast selected Liga Portugal matches in Japan, Italy and Belgium, while acquiring non-exclusive rights in Spain. The deal takes effect from the start of the 2026-27 campaign and marks another step in Liga Portugal’s strategy to grow its global audience through premium international broadcast partnerships.

The rights package covers three matches per round, with live and delayed broadcasts available across all existing and future distribution platforms. Matches will be produced with English-language commentary and may also be made available in local languages, although Portuguese-language commentary will not be offered in Spain.

Pedro Cubillos, Executive Director Media at SPORTFIVE, said, “Liga Portugal continues to strengthen its position as one of Europe’s most attractive football competitions, generating increasing interest from broadcasters and fans around the world. This agreement with DAZN is a strong example of how the league’s growing international appeal is creating new opportunities to expand its global audience and deliver greater value to clubs, partners and supporters.”

Shona Young, Director, Global Media at SPORTFIVE, added, “We are delighted to have worked closely with both DAZN and Liga Portugal to secure this multi-territory agreement. By bringing selected matches to audiences across Japan, Italy, Belgium and Spain, this partnership further enhances the visibility of Portuguese football and demonstrates the continued demand for high-quality international football content.”

Thomas Waterhouse, SVP Rights – DAZN, continued, “At DAZN, our ambition is to offer fans the very best football and continue strengthening our position as the leading destination for sports enthusiasts around the world. Bringing Liga Portugal to new international markets reinforces our commitment to expanding our portfolio of premium football rights and making top-tier competitions available to an ever-growing global audience. We believe sport should be more accessible, and through partnerships like this, we are helping more fans connect with the competitions they love, wherever and whenever they choose to watch.”

The agreement was negotiated by SPORTFIVE, which continues to oversee the international commercial distribution of Liga Portugal’s media rights. It reflects the growing overseas demand for Portuguese football, driven by the league’s reputation for developing elite talent and featuring clubs with consistent UEFA club competition pedigree, including Benfica, FC Porto, Sporting CP and SC Braga.

The latest agreement further strengthens DAZN’s football rights portfolio, which has expanded significantly in recent months. The sports streaming platform has secured international rights to the Kings World Cup Clubs 2026, extended its MotoGP rights in Spain and Portugal, added Premier Boxing Champions to its combat sports offering, retained exclusive Serie A rights in France through 2029, and integrated FIFA+ into its platform as part of its strategy to become the global home of football.
