LISBON – The Draft Horse Hitch Show and the planned second evening of truck and tractor pulls at the Columbiana County Fair has been canceled.
In a Saturday morning Facebook post, organizers said: “We do not take this decision lightly, as this is always one of our largest days of the fair. Again, we apologize and thank you for your continued support.”
Stormy weather has affected shows and events for much of the week-long fair.
The “Bulls, Broncos, and Barrels” event and “Derby Pull” scheduled for Wednesday was also canceled due to the “condition of the performance area” after significant rainfall.
On Friday, fair organizers canceled the first night of truck and tractor pulls due to weather and “unsafe track conditions.” In a Friday night post announcing the cancellation, organizers said “We know this is very frustrating and disappointing,” fair organizers stated in the Facebook post. “The safety of the drivers, crews, and spectators always comes first.”
Saturday’s Draft Horse Hitch Show was canceled due to the “condition of the grounds and for the safety of the horses and exhibitors.”
Tickets for all Columbiana County Fair events are listed as nonrefundable and in the cancellation posts, organizers affirmed that there will be no refunds.
There have also been no mentions of rescheduling any of the events. When asked earlier this week about rescheduling “Bulls, Broncos, and Barrels,” Columbiana County Fair Board Secretary Michelle Crawford told 21 News the event could not be rescheduled because the fair has grandstand events each day, with no room to add another; the company that was set to put on that show also has a strict schedule to follow, Crawford added.
The Junior Fair sale and livestock shows scheduled for Saturday are still running as planned.
The Combine Derby and Demolition Derby are still set to kick off at the grandstand on Sunday; the Combine is scheduled for 12 p.m. and the Demolition at 6:30 p.m. It is unclear if those events will also be canceled.
