I wonder what the craic will be after the census and the extra TDs going into the Dail? I guess what I’m getting at is are we doomed to an FF/FG government forever
People are getting sick of the ‘high GDP’ narrative. The lack of measures against inflation the growing crisis with accommodation (Rents, houses, hotels) . Darragh O Brien no cap on asylum seekers comments didn’t go down well at grassroots level I’m told. Pressure is building on all social services due to rapid population increases and a shortage of energy due to the war in Ukraine. Bad winter coming.
Are they doing these polls every week now?
Aontu surge!
The much cherished “but the Government combined is still polling higher than Sinn Féin!” won’t see past July.
Leave the greens in the ground.
If SF were in government the Conservatives would turn on the south big time?
Unfortunately unless people actually go and vote, we’ll just end up where we are again because nobody is going to go into government with SF.
Does anyone know anybody who’s been asked to take part in one of these polls?
Ok, so there are 39 constituencies, sf currently have 37 seats so what is their ceiling in the next election.. 50? 60? What ever happens they are going to take a number of seats off similar minded lefties and not as much off ffg as people hope.. can the country countenance a sf ff(rump) government
Election Day can’t come soon enough
Gilmore for Taoiseach though, right?
As a life long republican idealist. Sf are not going to solve anything. They are going to blame the previous government for that. And the wheel turns
I think sf just think now, Let’s play the game let’s get in power, say we need more time to undo the damage caused previously, maybe get a second term at which point people will realise they are full of shit. They are hoping they can get the border poll and a united ireland in that time.
Imagine your In government. What would you do? Build more houses? Check trying to do
Give more social welfare supports? Check
Extra allowances for people on social welfare, Check
Cut costs on alcohol and tobacco? Can’t do that, just costs in the long run on health system.
Demand that every supplier of petrol/ diesel / electricity/ oil charge the exact same? Logical and simple demand but we’re a socialist country and not communist.
Well looks like we will finally find out what a SF government is like. Despite all the issues of the day this is a massive development in Irish politics.
This is huge.
Not sure what a potential government would actually consist of, though?
Again, SF would need all the small parties to reach a majority – which seems unlikely – or they would need to go into coalition with FF.
Meanwhile, I don’t see a way that FF+FG could get into power with these numbers either, even with a large batch of the rural independents.
Seems like SF + FF is the only viable option, otherwise it’s a hung parliament, or some kind of grand coalition which I don’t think any of the major parties want.
“But SF”
Christ. Mary Lou. The woman to solve it all. Why are people so fucking stupid? Over a a third of the country. I despair.
If FF / FG together have the most seats after the next election which will probably happen they will still not go into power with one another. SF and whoever else they can bring into the fold will be the next government unless some dramatic unexpected event happens in meanwhile that would change public opinion. FF and FG are now thinking of the subsequent election when SF will probably disintegrate as they will not be able to deliver on what their voters expect. We have seen this so many times including the recent collapse of Labour.
I would never vote for SF but am somewhat happy to see them in power just so they can be found out. My only reservation is with international public opinion as the worlds press would be repointing that Ireland has elected the political wing of the IRA.
Ff and fg will wait and hope inflation eases and that with it the covid downturn is in some way fixed. This is doubtful; covid and war-driven inflation are a perfect storm to enable populism.
I personally have no idea what SF woukd do differently, or what they even could do differently. Theyll say they’ll raise corporation tax, but this easier said than done, they can’t raise personal income tax because it’s already way too high and i dont think they can just repossess a load of flats from global pension funds
