Wait, people actually use the GBNews website?
I think that’s unfair on Lineker, even though his wording was a bit awkward. You can be subjected to racist abuse, even anti-black racist abuse, without ‘actually’ being black. In just the same way that you can be subjected to homophobic abuse without being gay.
I experienced something similar to Lineker, albeit very mild. I have quite olive skin and dark frizzy hair, although most people would describe me as “white” or “Caucasian” to look at, and they’d say the same about my parents. One time at school, I had my hair cut quite short and received some stick as a result — “velcro-head” was quite common, but I think it went further, into epithet territory.
Was I a victim? No, I don’t see myself as one. But that doesn’t stop the abuse from being racist. Again, every time somebody uses the term “gay” as a pejorative, they’re being homophobic, even though they’re aiming it at straight people most of the time.

This is Calvin Robinson. A guy so toxic that the Church of England didn’t even want him. He puts himself out there as a deeply faithful ‘Christian’ and yet he’s perpetually outraged.
If someone calls you a racial slur that happens to inaccurately label your ethnicity, it is still racial abuse.
I mean, if he had dark skin then maybe he was a victim without technically being a victim. Fine.

But what peeves me off are comments like this:

Why are some people like this?! Happy to bemoan the time when colleagues were racist and sell the idea that racism was rife, but never actually willing to name and ensure that those same racists have their comeuppance?

Why?! Just enablers allowing shitty behaviour to slide, and bitterly ironic given how much Lineker bought into the BLM / anti-racism drive in the past year or 2 as if he was some champion of the cause lol. Nah mate, you’re not a champion of the cause because you are shielding potential racists from your past!
