Split Airport recorded a spectacular 770,000 passengers in July, making it the busiest airport in Croatia during the peak summer month.

The figure represents a new record for the airport, with passenger traffic continuing at an extraordinary pace throughout the summer season.

“We had 770,000 passengers in July and recorded the highest traffic of any airport in Croatia,” Mate Melvan, head of passenger and aircraft handling at Split Airport, told Hina.

The numbers put Split comfortably ahead of the country’s other major airports. Dubrovnik Airport handled 558,000 passengers during July, while Zagreb recorded 468,000.

Daily traffic through Split Airport during July and August has ranged between 22,000 and 29,000 passengers, with no day dropping below 22,000.

Another extremely busy month is expected in August, with forecasts suggesting between 740,000 and 750,000 passengers will pass through the airport.

The airport is also expecting around 205 aircraft and 56,000 passengers this weekend alone as Croatia’s peak tourism season continues.

Meanwhile, Split’s ferry port is bracing for its own wave of holiday traffic, with more than 75,000 passengers and 18,000 vehicles expected to pass through during the weekend.
