SHENANDOAH — Schuylkill County’s longest running seasonal outdoor downtown farm market is continuing its run from 8 a.m. to noon Tuesdays and Fridays through November along the east side of the first block of South Main Street.
Launched in the mid-1970s, the market was organized and is overseen by the Greater Shenandoah Area Chamber of Commerce. The original idea was to increase pedestrian traffic in the downtown business area.
The market provides fresh fruits, vegetables, flowers and even baked goods to the community, according to a release from the “Return to Prominence” revitalization group Downtown Shenandoah Inc.

SWIB seeking input on topics, speakers
POTTSVILLE — The Schuylkill Chamber of Commerce group Schuylkill Women in Business is seeking input as it plans for the new year and has compiled a “feedback form” for interested parties to provide indication regarding what topics and speakers should be included.
In a press release about the initiative, the chamber’s Olivia McCarthy said SWIB “is all about building connections, supporting one another and providing opportunities for professional and personal growth. Whether you’re looking to expand your network, hear from inspiring speakers or connect with women across Schuylkill County, we’d love to have you join us at an upcoming event!”
She called on interested participants to complete the survey and return it by Aug. 18, explaining, “Your input will help shape our programming for the year ahead.”
McCarthy also said the group “is always looking for members who are passionate about helping plan and grow Schuylkill Women in Business.”

POTTSVILLE — Explore Schuylkill, formerly the Schuylkill County Visitors Bureau, is a 501 (c)6 organization whose mission is “to increase the number of visitors to Schuylkill County, assist in enhancing the image of Schuylkill County and support the development of new tourist attractions in Schuylkill County,” according to online information at https://www.schuylkill.org/about-us.
Funding for the bureau is “almost exclusively by the county’s room tax.”

MAEA roundtable to focus on transportation updates
POTTSVILLE — The Northeast PA Manufacturers and Employers Association is taking registrations for its transportation roundtable that will feature Christopher Henry, division administrator for the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Pennsylvania Division.
The event is set for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 27 (lunch at noon) at the MAEA Conference Center, 250 One Norwegian Plaza.
In an MAEA release, President Darlene J. Robbins (drobbins@nepamaea.com) said Henry, with more than 38 years of experience in commercial motor vehicle safety and regulatory enforcement, oversees FMCSA’s federal and state safety programs throughout Pennsylvania.
“This session will provide manufacturers, transportation providers and employers with practical updates on key FMCSA regulations and enforcement priorities, including registration changes, CSA and SMS data accuracy, DOT drug and alcohol testing and the Clearinghouse, non-domiciled CDL enforcement, and English language proficiency requirements,” according to Robbins’ release.
She also said attendees “will gain timely insight to help maintain compliance, reduce risk and prepare for evolving federal requirements.”Roundtable co-chairs will include Michael A. Society preserves firefighting history
SHENANDOAH — The Schuylkill Historical Fire Society Museum and headquarters, 105 S. Jardin St., has a collection of historical firefighting equipment and artifacts known throughout the commonwealth.

The society is “dedicated to the preservation of historical fire apparatus and memorabilia” and its collection includes fire engines, steamers, helmets, artifacts and uniforms housed in the museum.

CrossTalk sessions held to get data to veterans
POTTSVILLE — CrossTalk, a community meeting of veterans, providers and those who work with veterans, is held 10 a.m. to noon the second Tuesday of the month at Schuylkill County PA CareerLink, 203 Arch St.
The gatherings include veteran-specific organizations such as the VA, community-based groups such as shelter providers and homeless service providers and other organizations including CareerLink and the Department of Corrections.
It features presentations from providers and sharing resources that veterans may access in the hope of “sharing knowledge and empowering veterans,” according to a release.
