Lithuanian Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius on Monday made a phone call to President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.

During the conversation, the sides hailed the positive dynamics in the development of relations between Azerbaijan and Lithuania in recent years, AZERTAC reported.

In this context, they recalled the visit of former Lithuanian PM Inga Ruginienė to Azerbaijan in April and the discussions she held with President Aliyev.

The head of state congratulated Sinkevičius on his election as prime minister.

Sinkevičius thanked President Aliyev for his congratulations and stated that, as Prime Minister, he would continue to pay close attention to the development of bilateral relations.

During the conversation, the sides discussed cooperation between Azerbaijan and Lithuania in the energy sector, particularly in the field of energy security, as well as prospects for increasing trade turnover.

The Lithuanian premier congratulated the Azerbaijani leader on the anniversary of the Washington Peace Summit and the agreements reached there.

The head of state thanked him for the congratulations.

The sides also discussed Azerbaijan–European Union relations, noting that the high-level contacts in recent times have made a substantial contribution to the development of cooperation. Lithuania’s consistent support for the advancement of Azerbaijan’s cooperation with the European Union was emphasized.

President Aliyev and PM Sinkevičius also exchanged views on the current situation in the international arena.
